Why We Started this Blog

The Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) is your voice for PM&R, GME, research and disability-related issues on Capitol Hill.

We want to help you be successful physician advocates, so we created the AAP Advocacy Blog to bring you monthly news you can use to empower your patients, your career and your specialty! We also encourage you to visit our Advocacy Homepage to read Advocacy Pearls, meet representatives of interest, and find videos and how-tos on having a successful meeting with your representative.

Association-wide advocacy efforts are managed by the AAP's Public Policy Committee (Chaired by Felicia Skelton-Dudley, MD, MS), who monitors federal legislative and regulatory developments, and suggests positions to be voted on by the AAP's Board of Trustees. Our Board of Trustees also meets with legislators every fall, and AAP representatives also play an active role in advocacy through the American Medical Association (AMA) and Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
